The M 5.2 earthquake struck Doi Island, North Maluku, had no potential for a tsunami

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.2 hit Doi Island, North Maluku, on Tuesday (25/7) night.

BMKG said the earthquake occurred at around 22.35 WIB with the location of the earthquake located in the sea, to be precise about 97 kilometers northwest of Doi Island with a depth of 10 kilometers.

“The location of the earthquake is at coordinates 2.40 North Latitude-126.91 East Longitude and has no potential for a tsunami,” said the BMKG warning.

It is not yet known whether there were casualties or the impact of the damage caused by the earthquake.

BMKG issued a warning to people around Doi Island, North Maluku, to be aware of the potential for aftershocks.
