The decision stipulates that the specifications for the new gasoline fuel have an octane number (RON) of 95 with 5 percent bio-ethanol fuel.

“This Kepdirjen stipulates and enforces standard and quality provisions for gasoline with RON 95 and a 5% bioethanol mixture,” said the Head of the Bureau of Communication, Public Information Services, and Cooperation of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Agung Pribadi.

Studies on fuel with a mixture of bioethanol have been since 2008

In line with this decision, PT Pertamina (Persero) is said to be launching a new RON 95 fuel product with a mixture of bioethanol derived from sugarcane molasses and cassava at the end of July 2023.

It was explained, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has been conducting studies since 2008 to ensure that mixing fuel with bioethanol can work.

“We have been running it for a long time, since 2008 there have been trial studies, and it was running but the economy didn’t get in, then it stopped,” Dadan said.

“Now because the President asked for it to run, the Perpres has been signed, for that hopefully at the beginning of July we can carry out (commercialization) for a limited area,” he continued.
