M 7.2 earthquake shakes Papua, felt in Jayapura to Merauke

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —

An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.2 shook Southwest Wewak, Papua, on Monday (3/4) in the morning. The earthquake shock was felt in a number of areas, from Jayapura to Merauke.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) stated that the earthquake occurred at 01.04 WIB.

The coordinates for the earthquake were located at 4.44 South Latitude and 143.05 East Longitude, 115 kilometers to the southwest of Wewak.

The earthquake was at a depth of 93 kilometers.

BMKG reported that the earthquake was felt in Keerom, Jayapura City, Jayapura, Wamena, Nabire and Merauke Regencies.

The level of shock felt is at level II-III or weak.

Based on the information from the BMKG, there is no potential for damage from this earthquake.
