Mahfud about the Asset Confiscation Bill Depending on Party Bosses: It’s a Joke

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —

The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD considered the statement by Chairman of Commission III DPR Bambang Wuryanto alias Bambang Pacul about the ratification of the Asset Confiscation Bill depending on party bosses as a mere joke.

Mahfud did not take Bambang Pacul’s statement seriously during a meeting at Commission III of the DPR, Jakarta, Wednesday (29/3) evening.

“Yes, I think that’s a joke. Pak Pacul likes to joke,” said Mahfud when met at the UIN Sunan Kalijaga Campus Mosque, Sleman, DIY, Saturday (1/4).

Previously, the Chairman of Commission III of the DPR, Bambang Wuryanto alias Bambang Pacul, responded to the insistence of the Coordinating Minister for Politics, Legal and Security Mahfud MD that the DPR immediately discuss and pass the Asset Confiscation Bill.

This pressure arose following a polemic over alleged strange transactions of IDR 349 trillion at the Ministry of Finance. However, Pacul said the Asset Confiscation Bill could be successful if the party chairmen agreed.

According to him, all DPR members obey their respective ‘bosses’. Because of that, he suggested that the government should lobby the general chairman of the party.

“It’s easy for the Republic here. Don’t lobby here, sir. This is all according to their respective bosses,” said Pacul in a meeting at the DPR’s Commission III, Jakarta, Wednesday (29/3) evening.

Pacul then gave an example that he did not dare to pass the Asset Confiscation Bill if there were other instructions from “mother”. However, the PDIP politician did not explain which “mother” he was referring to.

“Here it is permissible to speak fiercely. Bambang Pacul is called by Mother, ‘Pacul stops’. Ready. Implemented. Do it, sir,” he said.

Bambang Pacul stated that it is still possible to pass the Asset Confiscation Bill instead of the Currency Limitation Bill. However, he again emphasized that the government must first talk to the general chairmen of the party.

“If you can’t do it here, you can’t. So I’ll answer your request immediately. Bambang Pacul is ready, if ordered by the boss. How dare you, sir,” he said.
