Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Because of The Glory, a pencil suddenly sells well.
A product that is currently on the rise is the iconic black and blue pencil from the German stationery brand, Staedtler Mars Lumograph.
This isn’t the first time this has happened. It’s not uncommon for food or fashion and beauty products to go viral after being featured in Korean dramas (drakor).

This seemingly ordinary pencil has become an iconic fashion accessory after being featured in the drama The Glory. This drama is about Moon Dong-eun, played by actress Song Hye-kyo, who seeks revenge against a group of school bullies who bullied her.
In one of the drama’s most memorable scenes, drug-addicted character Lee Sa-ra, played by Kim Hieora, gets into a fight with one of her friends Choi Hye-jeong.
Overpowered by anger, Sa-ra pulls out the pencil used to make her hair up and then stabs Hye-jeong’s neck with the pencil. The gory scene reminds audiences of Keanu Reeve’s pencil fight scene in John Wick 2, where he kills a thug with a pencil.
According to reports, these pencils, which are usually used by art students and illustrators, have been selling well and have now sold out in South Korea. Netiza was actually surprised by his sudden popularity.
“I’ve been using this pencil for 20 years, but I didn’t expect it to go viral in 2023,” said one netizen, quoting 8 Days.
While others say that they can’t look at this pencil the same way anymore. “Now I feel pain in my neck when I see that pencil,” commented one fan.
Not only pencils. Another ‘weapon’ used in the drama The Glory has also been in the spotlight, namely Scotch whiskey Chivas Royal Salute 62 Gun Salute.
In another fight scene, the leader of the bully group, Park Yeon-jin attacks Son Myeong-oh, hitting him over the head repeatedly with a whiskey bottle. Surprisingly after three hits, the sturdy bottle didn’t break.
Instead of using an actual 62 Gun Salute bottle, the bottle featured in the drama is modeled after the Royal Salute 38 Year Old Stone of Destiny but featuring the 62 label.
The more common Royal Salutes on the market are the iconic 21 Year Old Signature Blend, 32 Year Old Union of the Crown and 38 Year Old Stone of Destiny.
The 62 Gun Salute was produced in limited quantities and represents the highest ceremonial salute, reserved for the most important royal occasions.
Presented in a handcrafted Dartington Crystal bottle, adorned with 24-karat gold and crowned with a cut crystal stopper, the 62 Gun Salute is considered a work of art. Each bottle is estimated to cost around US$3,000 or around Rp.56 million.

One vendor even touts the empty bottle containing the 38 Years Stone of Destiny as a “self-defense” weapon.
“Easy to grip and crush, suitable for women to use for self defense,” the seller wrote in the caption.
He added that the product is recommended for crime prevention or self-defense from “impolite and abusive persons”.
