Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Golkar Party Chairperson Airlangga Hartarto said the idea of forming a grand coalition in the upcoming 2024 presidential election (Pilpres) does not mean merging one coalition with another.
“This is not a melting pot (coalition). If it’s melted down, it’s like cendol. So we need a more thorough discussion,” said Airlangga at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Tuesday (28/3).

Airlangga confirmed that he would encourage this grand coalition to form in the 2024 presidential election. He claimed that forming a grand coalition was very possible.
“Well of course the bigger the better,” he said.
On the other hand, Airlangga dismissed reports that Golkar had been proposed to join the Coalition for Change and Unity which carried Anies Baswedan by former Vice President Jusuf Kalla (JK). He said JK did not speak like that.
Airlangga emphasized that Golkar had joined the United Indonesia Coalition (KIB) with PPP and PAN.
“We already have KIB, Golkar already have KIB,” he said.
The idea of forming a grand coalition was initially conveyed by Airlangga after attending a fasting event with the Nasdem Party, last Saturday (25/3).
The Coordinating Minister for the Economy admitted that he opened up the opportunity to form a grand coalition to win the 2024 Presidential Election.
“Big coalitions everywhere benefit Indonesia, so wait for the game date,” said Airlangga.
