The following are recommendations for iftar foods for people with high cholesterol.
1. Tofu or tempeh
Soy consumption is good for protein intake while lowering cholesterol. Soy products that can be included as an iftar menu include tofu, tempeh, and soy milk.
As reported by Harvard Health Publishing, consumption of 25 grams of soy protein a day (about 10 ounces of tofu or 2 1/2 cups of soy milk) can lower bad cholesterol by around 5-6 percent.
2. Fatty fish
Insert a fatty fish menu in a series of iftar menus. For people with high cholesterol, fish can be used as a substitute for meat which is high in saturated fat.
Fish, especially fatty fish, contain healthy omega 3 fats, which are also known to lower bad cholesterol.
Recommended fatty fish include mackerel, tuna, and salmon. These fish do not have to be consumed every iftar. But give a portion of fish on the menu two or three times a week.
