MotoGP: VR46 Consider Yamaha for 2025

Yamaha will only field two motorbikes this season after losing the RNF, which chose to join Aprilia. This inevitably led to rumors and comments surrounding the deal between the Iwata-based manufacturer and VR46.

The seven-time MotoGP world champion’s close relationship with the Japanese manufacturer is one of the most enduring and successful alliances in the history of motor racing, although it didn’t end the way The Doctor wanted.

But, collaboration can not be done in the near future. They must honor the deal until the end of 2024 with Ducati, although there has been speculation there could be a change before then.

At the end of last December, FIM president Jorge Viegas said, “I don’t see this situation very well.

“I think it will happen only in 2023. In 2024, Valentino Rossi’s team will leave Ducati and race with Yamaha. That is the idea, although for now nothing is certain. I give you the news: in 2024 there will be six Ducatis and four Yamahas. ”

At the last test at Portimao, Motorsport.com had the opportunity to speak with Uccio Salucci. For the second year, it will be reinforced by Luca Marini and Marco Bezzecchi who ride Desmosedici GP22 motorbikes.

“First of all, I have to admit that it is an honor for me that a brand like Yamaha is interested in us, for everything that was and what has happened in the past,” explained Uccio.

The current executive sees Yamaha’s interest as more a wish than a necessity for the manufacturer.

“It’s great to be wanted by a factory. At this level, if the manufacturers want you, it’s because you are doing well,” he said. “Yamaha pushed to give us the bike, it was good for me and Vale.”

However, Uccio is aware of the contracts that have been signed and the competitive moments each manufacturer experiences.

“Even so, we have a contract with Ducati until the end of 2024. If Yamaha is able to make a competitive bike at that time, we will definitely evaluate these options,” he concluded.
