MotoGP: Join Aprilia, RNF Racing Wants to Return to the Taste of Success

The team based in Sepang made its debut in MotoGP 2019 after partnering Franco Morbidelli and Fabio Quartararo, debutants from France who won seven podiums. This achievement made him finish fifth in the standings so he was named Rookie of the Year. The team finished fourth in the standings, a success that far exceeded expectations.

In 2020, Quartararo won three races and Morbidelli was runner-up. However, this marked the final success of the team, which at that time was still called Petronas. Furthermore, they continued to experience decomposition which led to a breakup with Yamaha and an alliance with Aprilia.

Razlan Razali’s team opened a new chapter this year. They use factory Noale machines and a new racer arrangement, namely Miguel Oliveira and Raul Fernandez.

Last Monday, the revamped CryptoDATA RNF MotoGP Team was unveiled, the last team on the premier class grid to do so, but with no less ambition and desire than any other.

The competitiveness of Aprilia 2022 that its drivers have, and the good performances of Oliveira and Fernandez in the pre-season tests, shows that they will be able to compete, practically at the factory team level, which last year fought for the championship with the same engine.

The presence of CryptoDATA as an investor in the project gives the company a large weight in decision-making and a boost in the ambitions of the new structure, which hopes to return to the levels achieved by the team during 2019-2020, the last year in which they were joint MotoGP runners-up Morbidelli.

“I am happy to finally be able to start the new season with a new spirit and a bold new color that reflects the new CryptoDATA RNF MotoGP Team,” said Razali.

“As a team, we are dedicated to making a difference and stepping outside the norm of the sport. We have partnered with CryptoDATA to bring cutting-edge technology to the sport and help us to stay at the forefront of innovation.

“But beyond our partnership, we are focused on bringing our own unique approach to racing, with a team culture that emphasizes excellence, determination, passion and a desire to be different.”

The MotoGP World Championship kicks off this weekend with the Portuguese Grand Prix as the opener. In his home race, Oliveira is expected to present the best performance for the new team that has hosted him after leaving KTM.
