Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
The England national team won 2-0 over Ukraine in the second match of Group C for Euro 2024 Qualification at Wembley Stadium, Sunday (26/3).
Appearing in front of the public itself, England appear confident to develop the game. However, Ukraine’s dense defense was still difficult to penetrate until midway through the match.
Despite having a series of opportunities, The Three Lions were only able to break the deadlock in the 37th minute. It was Harry Kane who managed to bring the hosts a 1-0 lead.
The goal started with Bukayo Saka’s impressive move from the left. After outwitting several opposing players, Saka released a cross which Kane was able to finish with a header.
Three minutes later, it was Saka’s turn to record his name on the scoreboard. The Arsenal winger outwitted Matvienko before firing a directional shot into the left corner of the goal.
Entering the second half, Ukraine tried to increase the tempo of the game and tried to suppress the host’s defense. Some dangerous attacks can be produced but none of them bear fruit.
England almost widened the lead in the 87th minute through the action of substitute Conor Gallagher. Unfortunately, Gallagher’s shot from close range was still able to be pushed over by Aanatoly Trubin.
Despite being superior, Gareth Southgate’s squad even intensified the pressure in the final minutes. However, the efforts made by Jack Grealish et al have not yet produced results.
The 2-0 score for England’s advantage lasted until the fight was over.
