In his speech, Paloh assessed that Anies was a person who had beliefs and thoughts that were in line with his party which prioritized the national interest.
Paloh emphasized that Nasdem chose Anies because he believed him to be the best presidential candidate.
“This is why Nasdem finally saw the figure of Anies Rasyid Baswedan. We have beliefs, thoughts in perspective, both macro and micro, which are in line with what we believe. We want to entrust this nation’s journey forward, God willing, if brother Anies Rasyid Baswedan was elected as president later,” said Paloh.
According to Paloh, the coalition talks with the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) and the Democratic Party will continue. He will also later give authority to Anies to choose his vice presidential candidate. This man from Aceh will also not force Anies to join as a Nasdem cadre, as long as Anies is consistent in building the nation.
In his remarks, Anies Baswedan adhered to the manifesto of the Nasdem Party entitled Restoration Indonesia, one of the contents of which was to create a mature Indonesian democracy, which became a place of comparison between diversity and unity, dynamics and order, competition and equality, freedom and prosperity.
He claimed that Nasdem consistently carried out the four messages in the manifesto and this shows the spirit of democratic maturity and prioritizes the national interest above all interests. For this reason, Anies stated that he was willing to accept his nomination as a presidential candidate from Nasdem to continue development, fix what was lacking, and complete what had not been done.
“So by asking for the pleasure of Allah, by asking for guidance from Him, and with all humility, we accept bismillahirrahmanirrahim and are ready to answer the challenge,” said Anies.
After completing his term as governor of Jakarta on October 16, Anies said, he is ready to immediately build a solid collaboration. Anies hopes that efforts to compete in the 2024 General Election will be facilitated.
Nasdem became the first political party to announce its champion. Previously, the Nasdem Party had two other candidates to be carried in the 2024 presidential election, namely Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo and TNI Commander General Andika Perkasa.
The presidential candidate’s declaration was moved forward from the original plan, which was November 10, 2022. When asked whether there was a connection between this forwarded declaration and the KPK’s investigation process, Paloh denied it. The KPK is currently investigating the alleged corruption of Formula E. During the investigation process, Anies Baswedan was questioned twice.
The Executive Director of the Indonesian Survey Institute, Djayadi Hanan, told VOA that Anies Baswedan’s nomination as a presidential candidate from the Nasdem Party had been predicted long ago, namely since the Nasdem national working meeting determined three candidates, namely Anies, the TNI Commander General Andika Perkasa and the Governor of Java. Central Ganjar Pranowo.
However, he continued that Anies’ declaration as a presidential candidate from Nasdem was not carried out simultaneously with PKS and the Democratic Party.
“If we look at the Nasdem political movements or maneuvers so far, the tendency is more towards Anies than other candidates, including Andika and Ganjar. So they are more inclined to Anies,” said Djayadi.
If you look at the various results of the latest survey, according to Djayadi, the lower ranks of Nasdem supporters are increasingly supporting Anies even though it is not yet a majority or still below 50 percent. He considered that it was difficult for Nasdem to nominate other popular names, namely Prabowo and Ganjar.
If Nasdem nominates Prabowo, then Nasdem must join the Great Indonesia Movement Party. Likewise, if you support Ganjar, who is still a cadre of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle.
Nasdem’s Anies declaration, according to him, is only a third of the journey because Nasdem needs two more parties to form a coalition in smoothing Anies’ nomination as a presidential candidate. He suspects that Nasdem has not agreed with the Democrats and PKS regarding the names of the vice presidential candidates because each has a candidate.
According to Djayadi, 40 percent of Democratic voters are inclined to Anies and nearly 80 percent of PKS voters support Anies.
He said that Nasdem seems to want to choose East Java Governor Khofifah Indah Prawangsa as its vice presidential candidate, while PKS has its own vice presidential candidates, such as Ahmad Heryawan and Sohibul Iman. The Democratic Party itself, he said, encouraged its general chairman, Agus Harymurti Yudhoyono (AHY), for the position.
He explained that if Anies was accompanied by AHY, the vote acquisition could be helped in East Java because the Demorat voter base in this province was quite strong. If paired with Khofifah, her electability is also quite good, considering that she is still the governor of East Java, and is a female candidate from Nahdahtul Ulama.
Djayadi said that by becoming the first political party to declare Anies as a presidential candidate, Nasdem strengthened its association with Anies. [fw/ab]
