Jakarta – Tire company Hankook Tire has introduced Non-Pneumatic (NPT) tires in the form of i-Flex at the Defense & Security Korea (DX KOREA) 2022 exhibition.
Based on the official information received by Carmudi, the i-Flex is a futuristic-style NPT concept tire that is projected to be used by unmanned vehicles on off-road terrain.
i-Flex as the first generation that is enhanced will have a fairly large size, which is 17 inches with a diameter of 730 mm and a width of 200 mm.
Unlike conventional tires in general, i-Flex will not have air in it.
This is claimed to be able to better ensure the safety of every user if they have an accident while driving due to a tire leak.
On the other hand, this tire adopts a double-curved structure design to support the load and distribute the vehicle’s weight evenly.
For the outer arch, serves to minimize irregular shocks transmitted from off road surfaces.
Meanwhile, the inner curvature is useful for reducing shocks transmitted to the vehicle actuators.
The inner and outer arches of the i-Flex are connected by integral hinges to provide stability in the overall shape.
In addition, this tire also applies technology which can rotate up to 360 degrees in place.
Trapezoidal sidewalls are adopted in order to quickly transmit the rotational force of the vehicle’s engine to the road surface when the vehicle is automatically turning.
Develop NPT Tire Technology Since 2010
Hankook Tire has been developing NPT tire technology since 2010. As a result, this effort gave birth to the i-Flex as an airless tire that has various advantages.
This tire is presented as a solution for future mobility. Hankook itself continues to research for further improvement.
Hankook has a philosophy in technology, namely Hankook Innovative Performance (HIP) which is at the core of the company’s commitment to increasing the sensibility of safe and enjoyable driving, and realizing future mobility.
