Gossip or backbiting is basically forbidden.
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — The Muslim cleric and scholar from Turkey, Badiuzzaman Said Nursi revealed several conditions that allow gossip or backbiting. Although basically forbidden, according to him, giving back can be justified under certain conditions
First, that is when complaining tyranny people. “People who are oppressed can tell the story of the person who oppressed them to the authorities to help them overcome the oppression and evil that befell them,” Nursi explained, quoted from his book entitled Risalah Ikhlas dan Ukhuwah published by Risalah Nur.
Second, when asking for advice. For example, when someone who intends to cooperate with others in business or other matters comes to ask you for advice.
So, with sincere intentions and for the sake of benefit that person, without any personal interest, we can give him advice by saying, “You are not fit to work with him. You will bear the loss. ”
Third, when introducing without any intention to defame. For example, you say, “The cripple or the bad guy…”
Fourth, that is, when the person being slandered is a wicked person who openly commits wickedness. The person does not even have the shame of behaving badly, is proud of the sins he has committed, and enjoys doing injustice to others.
“In these special cases, backbiting is allowed for the sake of truth and benefit only, without bad intentions and personal interests. Otherwise, backbiting will damage and devour good deeds, like fire that devours firewood,” said Nursi.
“If someone is involved in gossip or deliberately listens to it, he must immediately ask forgiveness from Allah, then he must apologize to the person he was gossiping about when he met him,” explained Nursi.
