For the most part, the film satisfied fans and critics alike. However, the poor reception of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014) eventually resulted in a Sony/Marvel Studios deal to reboot the character again in the MCU with Tom Holland—which shortened Garfield’s tenure.

Marvel Studios and Sony’s No Way Home are bringing back their Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Maguire to help Holland battle their respective villains and learn a thing or two about “great power” and “great responsibility.”
However, Garfield’s appearance in No Way Home made fans want to see Garfield return as Spider-Man in several future projects.
In his interviews since No Way Home, Garfield has opened up a lot about his experiences during his return to Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. When he was asked if he would be open to returning as Spidey, he would open up if the project was real.
“I mean, yeah, definitely being open to something if it feels right. Peter and Spider-Man, those characters are about service, for the greater good and people. He’s a working-class kid from Queens who knows struggle and loss and very empathetic.”
“Surely going to try to borrow Peter Parker’s ethical framework in that, if there’s an opportunity to step back and tell more about the story I have to feel very sure and confident in myself.”
For Sony’s own Spider-verse story, there will be two spin-off films related to the world of Spider-Man such as Morbius and the third Venom later. Meanwhile, fans want Andrew Garfield to appear in The Amazing Spider-Man 3 to close the story, which was a cliff hanger in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
