Jakarta — Tesla cars have a security feature called Sentry Mode which is in charge of monitoring the environment around the vehicle through a camera located on the exterior. Its functions include recording crimes, such as when a car is scratched by an unknown person either intentionally or not.
Recently, the Sentry Mode feature on Tesla cars has received the attention of a number of foreign automotive media. The reason is that this feature really shows its benefits for owners who want to know the cause of the “mysterious” damage to the vehicle body.
An example is the case that happened in England recently. Summarized from Carscoops, Monday (12/27/2021), a 57-year-old woman was recorded intentionally scratching the body of a Tesla Model 3 parked right next to her Nissan Juke.
The incident began when the woman was about to put groceries into her Nissan Juke. But after that he scratched the body of a Tesla Model 3 parked next to him using a key.
The unseemly act was captured by a camera attached to the front fender of a Tesla Model 3.
Based on the police statement, the action was taken because he was annoyed that the Tesla Model 3 car was parked too tight. Even though he himself was proven to have parked deviated from the predetermined boundary line.
The Sentry Mode feature on Tesla cars makes use of more than one camera. Footage from angle others managed to record the woman’s face including the Nissan Juke she was driving. This material is then used by the police for tracking.
Finally, the woman was required to pay losses to the owner amounting to 1,078.33 pounds or about Rp20.5 million.
Other Manufacturers Need to Adopt
Citing Tesla’s official website, the Sentry Mode feature comes as an additional layer of vehicle safety because it continuously monitors the surrounding environment.
This feature works in three stages or states. The first is the Standby status, which means that all cameras on the exterior carry out the task of detecting threats when the car is left by its owner.
Then the Alert status is active when there is a potential minor threat, such as someone leaning against a car. The screen on the interior immediately lights up and displays a message that the camera is recording.
Then the highest status is Alarm. This status is active if there is a serious threat to the vehicle, for example someone breaking a car window. This status is also accompanied by audio on at maximum volume.
