Queen Elizabeth shared her grief after the loss of her husband, Prince Philip. He delivered this in a very personal Christmas message to Britons.
The 95-year-old queen said while Christmas marks happiness for many, it can also be a difficult time for those who have lost a loved one. And this year, she finally got it, having lost Philip, 99, in April after 73 years of marriage.
“His dedication, his intellectual curiosity and his ability to find pleasure in any situation, are all unstoppable,” he said in a pre-recorded broadcast.
“His mischievous eyes were so bright the first time I saw him,” he said.
The Queen said she knew Philip would want his family to enjoy Christmas, and there would be happiness for them even if there was no “sound of laughter”.
Elizabeth spent Christmas at Windsor Castle, west London, for the second year in a row amid the COVID-19 pandemic. [vm/ft]
